Help with Nestory.

The problems families hit most, what you can sort out yourself, and how to reach a person.

Common issues

The wall isn’t showing my latest changes

Nestory pushes changes to the wall over a live connection rather than checking for them on a timer, so an edit made on a phone normally lands on the wall within a second. If the wall looks out of date, reload the page — that is enough in almost every case.

If a reload fixes it every time, the tablet is probably holding on to a stale copy of the app itself. Open the wall with ?sw=off on the end of the address once; that clears the stored copy and the tablet picks up the current version from then on.

My calendar isn’t syncing

Google and Apple both expire the permission Nestory uses to read a calendar, usually after a password change or a security prompt nobody finished. When that happens the connection is still listed, but it stops bringing in events.

Open Settings → Device & Access → Connections. A connection in that state is marked needs reconnecting and has a Reconnect button — that is the whole fix, and it keeps the calendars you had selected.

Events you create on the wall sync back to the connected calendar. Removing a connection removes its events from the wall, but changes nothing in Google or Apple.

Setting up the tablet on the wall

Any tablet that can open a browser will do, and we would rather you re-used the one in the drawer than bought a new one. Mount it or stand it somewhere the household walks past, keep it plugged in, and open app.nestory.homes. Sign in once and leave that screen open — the wall is meant to stay on.

There is an Android app as well, and the same household opens on a phone or a laptop with the same login.

Adding another parent, or a child

Everyone in the household lives in Profiles in the admin menu. Add a child there and they appear on the wall straight away — children are supervised profiles, so there is nothing for them to sign in to and no password to set.

Giving another adult their own login is a separate step: open their profile, enter their email address and send the invite. They set their own password from the link that arrives, and only adults can hold credentials.

Chores or reminders are landing on the wrong day

Almost always the household’s time zone. It is under Settings → Family → Location & Time, and it decides which day a chore belongs to, when reminders fire, and which public holidays show — so a wrong setting shifts a whole household’s week rather than one item.

Worth checking first if things look right during the day but wrong late at night or early in the morning: that is the shape of a day-boundary being drawn in the wrong zone.

The wall is silent, or too loud

Sound is set per screen, not per household. Settings → Device & Access → Alerts on this screen is saved in that browser only, so the wall tablet, your phone and a laptop each keep their own setting.

That is why turning the volume up on your phone changes nothing on the wall, and why a tablet that has been reset or had its browser data cleared comes back silent. Set it on the screen you actually want to hear.

Something I emailed or forwarded never arrived

Anything sent to your family’s Nestory address lands in the Inbox in Capture, not directly on the wall — it waits there for someone to file it.

If nothing arrived at all, open Capture and check the Channels panel: each way in has to be switched on, and the address or number shown there is the one to send to. Sending to an old address, or from a channel that has been turned off, is the usual cause.

Turning the smart suggestions off

Settings → Device & Access → Smart Features is a single switch for the whole family. With it off, Nestory stops generating suggestions and stops sending household context anywhere for them.

Everything else keeps working. Calendars, chores, meals, groceries, rewards and reminders are ordinary features and do not depend on it.

I’ve forgotten the parent PIN

If you still know the current PIN you can change it yourself in Settings → Device & Access.

If you don’t, there is no self-service reset, and that is deliberate: the PIN is what stops a child on the wall reaching parent controls, so a reset anyone standing at the tablet could trigger would defeat it. Email us from the address on the account and we will reset it once we have confirmed you are the account holder.

Nestory says the subscription has lapsed

Billing runs through Google Play, which is the merchant for Nestory subscriptions — so renewing, changing a card or cancelling all happen there, not in Nestory. Settings → Account links straight to the right screen in Play.

A lapsed subscription never puts your household’s data out of reach: exporting everything and deleting the account both stay available from Settings → Account → Your Data.

What happens when the internet drops

The wall keeps showing what it already had and says plainly that it is offline. It does not go blank, and it does not quietly accept a tap and lose it — new entries are refused out loud until the connection is back.

It reconnects on its own, so a tablet nobody is standing in front of recovers without help. Anything you were part-way through typing is kept as a draft.

Things you can do yourself

  • Delete your account

Use the account deletion page. It works after you have uninstalled the app — we send a link to your email address that does the work.

  • Download your data

Settings → Account → Your Data. Export stays available even if the subscription has lapsed.

  • Cancel the subscription

Cancel in Google Play — Google handles the billing, so it is the only place a subscription can be stopped. Settings → Account links straight to it.

  • Disconnect a calendar or service

    Settings → Device & Access → Connections.

Still stuck

Email support@nestory.homes and a person will read it.

It helps enormously if you say which screen you were on, what you expected to happen, and what happened instead — and whether it was the wall tablet, a phone, or a laptop. A photo of the screen is worth more than a description.
